Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)
Got questions about who we are, and what we do? Hopefully you'll be able to find your answer in the FAQs below. However, if you're still left wondering then just drop us a line and we'll get back to you ASAP.-
What are your core beliefs at St Matthias?
Here at St Matthias we have one common purpose - to understand what God says to us in his Bible, and to know and serve Jesus Christ as God’s unique son. You can read a summary of our beliefs by clicking here. As part of the Sydney diocese of the Anglican church, we hold to the great Reformation doctrines contained in the 39 Articles of Religion and The Book of Common Prayer.

What kind of people go to St Matthias?
Our church family is made up of all sorts of different people… and that’s just the way we love it! There are people of all ages and stages in life, from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, all spending their days doing a range of different things.
There is nothing particularly ’special’ about us! Most of us have mortgages, problems, challenges and everything else that comes as a part and parcel of life. However, what really unites us together is that we trust that God has forgiven us our wrong-doings because Jesus died on the cross, in our place. And so as we trust Jesus, we also want to follow him all our lives. This message that we are so passionate about is what makes such a diverse range of people part of the one family – God’s family.

How long does church on a Sunday go for?
We try to start church on time each week (9.30am or 6pm) and the structured part of our time together (up until morning tea or supper) normally takes around 60-80 minutes. Morning tea and supper has no set end time – people are welcome to stay around as long as they like to chat.
-
What should I wear to church?
Clothes preferably! Having said that, our church meetings are not formal occasions so please don't feel like you need to 'dress up'. Most of our members wear the kind of clothes they might put on when going out for coffee with friends or to an afternoon movie etc. Jeans are perfectly fine!

What about my children?
At St Matthias we want people of all ages to hear God speak through his word so that they can trust and follow Jesus. As well as an extensive youth programme we also have the following for the children of those coming along on Sunday mornings:
- A full children's programme for kids from 2 years of age up to those in Year 8. You can drop your kids off before you head into church and pick them up after it has finished.
- A properly supervised crèche for babies aged 0-2.
- A cry-room facility with a live video and audio feed of what is happening in church.
More information about our children’s programmes and ministries is available here.

What if I don’t believe all...
Our church family wants to be a place where anybody can come along to ‘check Jesus out’, or to ask their questions in an open and an upfront way. We really do love meeting new people and chatting with them about why we have all made the decision to trust and follow Jesus. We also really enjoy the opportunity to answer questions that people might have about Jesus, and regularly run courses exploring Christianity for those interested in hearing more.
So regardless of what you do (or don’t) believe at the moment, we would love you to come along to church, or any of our other activities, and we look forward to meeting you there.

Do you only do stuff on Sundays?
Whilst the time we spend together on Sundays is an important part of our church family life, we also get together at different times throughout the week to read and discuss the Bible with each other and to get to know each other better.
